It's the entry point into the AWS certification path and one of the most widely earned cloud certifications in the world.

The CCP certification validates that you understand core AWS services, cloud concepts, pricing models, and shared responsibility principles at a foundational level. It's not a technical hands-on certification — you won't be writing Terraform or architecting systems. Who Is the AWS CCP Certification For?

Domain 3: Cloud Technology and Services (34%)

The most technical domain. Tests your knowledge of core AWS services across compute, storage, networking, databases, and more. Key services to know:

• Compute — EC2 instance types, Lambda (serverless), ECS/EKS (containers)
• Storage — S3 storage classes, EBS, EFS, Glacier
• Database — RDS, DynamoDB, Redshift, ElastiCache
• Networking — VPC, subnets, route tables, Security Groups, NACLs, CloudFront
• Management tools — CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Config, Trusted Advisor

Domain 4: Billing, Pricing, and Support (12%)

AWS pricing models (on-demand, reserved, savings plans, spot), cost management tools (Cost Explorer, Budgets, Cost and Usage Report), support plan tiers (Basic, Developer, Business, Enterprise), and the AWS Free Tier structure.

How to Prepare for the AWS CCP Certification

Most candidates with minimal cloud background need 4–8 weeks of preparation. Here's what works:

Step 1: Get Hands-On with AWS Free Tier

The single best thing you can do for your CCP prep is create a free AWS account and actually use the services. Launch an EC2 instance. Create an S3 bucket. Set up an IAM user with limited permissions. When you've seen the services in a real console, the exam questions make much more sense. The free tier gives you enough to do this without spending money.

Step 2: Study the Domain Content Systematically

Work through each domain in order of weight:

• Security and Compliance (30%) — Study the Shared Responsibility Model carefully. Many exam questions are about what AWS manages vs what the customer manages in various service contexts.
• Cloud Technology and Services (34%) — Know each major service's purpose and common use cases. You don't need to know how to configure them, but you should know when you'd use EC2 vs Lambda, S3 vs EBS, RDS vs DynamoDB.

Is the CCP Certification Worth It?

It depends on your goals:

• For non-technical professionals — Yes, without question. A CCP demonstrates cloud literacy to employers and clients. It costs $100 and can be earned in a few weeks.
• For aspiring cloud engineers — Yes, as a foundation, but plan to follow it with a technical cert (Solutions Architect Associate, Developer Associate) within 6–12 months. The CCP alone won't get you a technical cloud engineering role.
• For experienced AWS professionals — Skip it and go straight to an associate or professional cert. The CCP covers ground you already know.

CCP vs Other AWS Certifications

Preparing for the CCP with Practice Tests

Practice tests are the most efficient CCP preparation tool, but only if you use them correctly. Don't just drill questions and check answers — review every explanation for questions you miss, and trace the concept back to the correct AWS service documentation or your study notes.

A few specific practice habits that pay off for the CCP:

• Practice the Shared Responsibility Model scenarios — These appear in many forms across the exam. Get very clear on the distinction between security "of" the cloud (AWS's responsibility) versus security "in" the cloud (customer's responsibility)
• Drill service differentiation questions — "When would you use X instead of Y" questions are common. EC2 vs Lambda, S3 vs EBS, RDS vs DynamoDB — know the key differentiators for each pair
• Practice multi-select questions specifically — These are harder than single-answer questions and easy to lose points on if you're not used to them. Practice identifying when a question is asking for multiple correct answers and resist the urge to stop at the first plausible option
