  1. A salesperson earns a $2,000/month base salary plus 5% commission on sales. She earned $3,500 last month. What were her total sales?

    Answer: $30,000

    Commission = $3,500 - $2,000 = $1,500; sales = $1,500 ÷ 0.05 = $30,000.

  2. What number is missing? 2, 5, 10, 17, 26, ___, 50

    Answer: 37

    Differences increase by 2 each step: +3, +5, +7, +9, +11; so 26 + 11 = 37.

  3. If p = 4 and q = -3, what is the value of 2p² − 3q?

    Answer: 41

    2(4²) − 3(−3) = 2(16) + 9 = 32 + 9 = 41.

  4. A bag contains 5 red and 3 blue marbles. What is the probability of randomly drawing a blue marble?

    Answer: 3/8

    Probability = 3 ÷ (5 + 3) = 3/8.

  5. Which value of x satisfies 3x + 7 = 22?

    Answer: 5

    3x = 22 - 7 = 15; x = 15 ÷ 3 = 5.

  6. A company's revenue grew from $500,000 to $650,000. What was the percentage increase?

    Answer: 30%

    Increase = $150,000; percentage = ($150,000 ÷ $500,000) × 100 = 30%.

  7. A map uses a scale of 1 inch = 25 miles. Two cities are 3.6 inches apart on the map. What is the actual distance?

    Answer: 90 miles

    Actual distance = 3.6 × 25 = 90 miles.
