A growing dot pattern follows triangular numbers: Step 1=1, Step 2=3, Step 3=6, Step 4=10. What is Step 6?
Answer: 21
Triangular numbers: T(n) = n(n+1)/2. T(6) = 6x7/2 = 21.
The interior angle sum of regular polygons increases by 180 degrees with each additional side (triangle=180, square=360, pentagon=540). What is the interior angle sum of a heptagon (7 sides)?
Answer: 900 degrees
Interior angle sum = (n-2) x 180. For heptagon: (7-2) x 180 = 5 x 180 = 900 degrees.
Nested squares: each inner square has sides half the outer. The outermost has side 16. What is the perimeter of the 4th (innermost) square?
Answer: 8
Sides: 16, 8, 4, 2. The 4th square has side 2, perimeter = 4 x 2 = 8.
In a series, each figure is reflected horizontally from the previous. Figure 1 is an arrow pointing right. Figure 3 looks like ___.
Answer: Arrow pointing right
Figure 1: right. Figure 2: reflected = left. Figure 3: reflected again = right. Two reflections restore the original.
A pattern alternates: odd steps change shape (+1 side), even steps double count. Start: 1 triangle. Steps 1-5: 1 square, 2 squares, 2 pentagons, 4 pentagons, 4 hexagons. Step 6 contains how many figures?
Answer: 8
Step 6 is even, so the count doubles from Step 5: 4 x 2 = 8.
A series shows squares: 1x1, 2x2, 3x3, 4x4. The areas are 1, 4, 9, 16. What is the area of the 7th figure in the series?
Answer: 49
Area of n-th figure = n^2. 7th figure: 7^2 = 49.
