  1. A store sells notebooks for $3.50 each. A customer buys 8 notebooks and pays with a $50 bill. How much change do they receive?

    Answer: $22.00

    Cost = 8 x $3.50 = $28.00. Change = $50.00 - $28.00 = $22.00.

  2. A train travels 360 miles in 4.5 hours. What is its average speed in miles per hour?

    Answer: 7.5 cups

    36 cookies is 3 times 12, so 3 x 2.5 = 7.5 cups.

  4. A project team has 5 members. Each member works 6 hours per day for 10 days. What is the total number of person-hours worked?

  5. A car was worth $24,000 when new and depreciated by 15% in the first year. What is its value after one year?

    Answer: $20,400

    Depreciation = 15% of $24,000 = $3,600. New value = $24,000 - $3,600 = $20,400.

  6. Two workers together paint a fence in 6 hours. Worker A alone takes 10 hours. How long would Worker B take alone?
