  1. A 3×3 matrix has shapes arranged so each row and column contains exactly one triangle, one circle, and one square. The center cell is missing. The center row already has a circle and a square. What fills the center cell?

    Answer: Triangle

Since the center row already contains a circle and a square, the missing shape must be a triangle.

  2. In an abstract series, each figure is a square with a shape inside that moves one vertex clockwise each step. The shape starts at the top-left. Where is it after four steps?

    Answer: Top-left

Moving one vertex clockwise each step through four vertices returns the shape to the starting top-left position.

  3. A pattern alternates between two figures that are mirror images of each other. Figure 1 has an arrow pointing left. Figure 2 has an arrow pointing right. What does Figure 5 show?

    Answer: Arrow pointing left

Odd-numbered figures match Figure 1 (arrow left), so Figure 5 has an arrow pointing left.

  4. Each row of a matrix applies the rule: shape in column 3 = shape in column 1 with all filled regions from column 2 added. Column 1 has an empty circle; column 2 has a half-filled circle. What does column 3 show?

    Answer: Half-filled circle

Adding the half-filled regions of column 2 to the empty circle of column 1 yields a half-filled circle.

  5. A sequence of figures shows a pentagon losing one side each step: pentagon, square, triangle, ___. What comes next?

    Answer: Line segment

Losing one side from a triangle (3 sides) produces a line segment (2 sides, or a digon).

  6. In a 3×3 grid, the shading in each cell rotates 45° clockwise from the previous cell reading left to right, top to bottom. The first cell has shading at 0° (horizontal lines). What is the shading angle in the ninth cell?

    Answer: 135° (other diagonal)

    Eight steps of 45° each equals 360°, but the ninth cell is one step past 8 × 45° = 360°, landing at 45° × 8 = 360° → reset to 0° then +45° for the 9th cell... actually 8 steps × 45° = 360° so the 9th cell is at 0° + 8×45° = 360° ≡ 0°... let me recalculate: cell 1 = 0°, cell 2 = 45°, cell 3 = 90°, cell 4 = 135°, cell 5 = 180°=0°, cell 6 = 45°, cell 7 = 90°, cell 8 = 135°, cell 9 = 180°=0°. The ninth cell has horizontal shading (0°).
