Question 1

What does the orderer BatchTimeout setting control?

Accepted Answer

Maximum time to wait after the first transaction before cutting a block

Answer

BatchTimeout is the maximum wait before a block is cut when batch size limits are not yet reached.

Question 2

Which setting caps the number of transactions in a single block?

Accepted Answer

MaxMessageCount

Answer

MaxMessageCount is the maximum number of messages per batch.

Question 3

A channel has low load and users complain about high commit latency. Which tuning change is most likely to help?

Accepted Answer

Lower BatchTimeout, such as to 500ms

Answer

At low load blocks are cut by timeout, so a shorter BatchTimeout cuts them sooner.

Question 4

What is PreferredMaxBytes used for in batch configuration?

Accepted Answer

It is the target block size, and a larger message gets its own block

Answer

PreferredMaxBytes is the preferred batch size; a message exceeding it is placed in its own batch.

Question 5

A Raft ordering cluster across distant regions shows frequent leader elections. What is a sensible fix?

Accepted Answer

Increase TickInterval or ElectionTick to tolerate network latency

Answer

Longer Raft tick or election timeouts avoid spurious elections caused by high network latency.
