  1. A worker earns $84 in 7 hours. How much does she earn in 10 hours at the same rate?

    Answer: $120

    Hourly rate = $12/hr; 10 × $12 = $120.

  2. The ratio of red marbles to blue marbles is 5:3. If there are 24 blue marbles, how many red marbles are there?

    Answer: 40 marbles

    5/3 = x/24, so x = (5 × 24) / 3 = 40.

  3. A photograph is 4 inches wide and 6 inches tall. If it is enlarged so the width becomes 10 inches, what is the new height?

    Answer: 15 inches

    4/6 = 10/x gives x = 15 inches to maintain the same ratio.

  4. If 3 shirts cost $45, how much do 7 shirts cost at the same price?

    Answer: $105

    Each shirt costs $15; 7 × $15 = $105.

    Answer: 33 feet

    4/6 = 22/x gives x = (22 × 6) / 4 = 33 feet.

  7. A tank fills at a rate of 15 gallons every 4 minutes. How many gallons will it hold after 12 minutes?

    Answer: 45 gallons

    15/4 = x/12, so x = (15 × 12) / 4 = 45 gallons.
