  1. A store sold 840 items in January and 1,050 items in February. What is the percent increase?

    Answer: 25%

    (1050 − 840) / 840 × 100 = 210/840 × 100 = 25%.

  2. What is the least common multiple (LCM) of 8 and 12?

    Answer: 24

The smallest number divisible by both 8 and 12 is 24.

  3. A tank holds 150 gallons. It is currently 2/5 full. How many more gallons are needed to fill it?

    Answer: 90 gallons

    2/5 × 150 = 60 gallons in tank; 150 − 60 = 90 gallons needed.

  4. Which number is a prime number?

    Answer: 59

    59 is only divisible by 1 and itself; 51=3×17, 57=3×19, 63=9×7.

  5. Solve: 4(x − 3) = 20

    Answer: x = 8

    4x − 12 = 20 → 4x = 32 → x = 8.

  6. A bag contains 4 red, 5 blue, and 3 green marbles. What is the probability of randomly selecting a blue marble?

    Answer: 5/12

    Total marbles = 12; P(blue) = 5/12.

  7. What is the greatest common factor (GCF) of 36 and 48?

    Answer: 12

    Factors of 36: 1,2,3,4,6,9,12,18,36; factors of 48: 1,2,3,4,6,8,12,16,24,48; GCF = 12.
