  1. What is the mean (average) of the numbers 6, 10, 14, and 18?

    Answer: 12

    Add all values: 6 + 10 + 14 + 18 = 48. Divide by the count of values: 48 ÷ 4 = 12.

  2. What is the median of the data set: 3, 7, 9, 15, 20?

    Answer: 9

    The median is the middle value when data is arranged in order. With 5 values, the middle (3rd) value is 9.

  3. In the set {2, 4, 4, 6, 8, 4}, what is the mode?

    Answer: 4

    The mode is the value that appears most often. The number 4 appears three times, more than any other value.

  4. What is the range of the data set: 12, 5, 9, 18, 3?

    Answer: 15

    Range = maximum value − minimum value. Maximum is 18, minimum is 3: 18 − 3 = 15.

  5. A bag contains 4 red marbles and 6 blue marbles. If one marble is chosen at random, what is the probability it is red?

    Answer: 2/5

    Total marbles = 4 + 6 = 10. Probability of red = favorable outcomes ÷ total outcomes = 4/10 = 2/5.

  6. A standard die is rolled once. What is the probability of rolling a number greater than 4?

    Answer: 1/3

    Numbers greater than 4 on a standard die: 5 and 6 = 2 outcomes. Total outcomes = 6. Probability = 2/6 = 1/3.
