A bar graph compares sales in Q1 and Q2. Q1=$45,000 and Q2=$54,000. What is the percent increase from Q1 to Q2?
Answer: 20%
Percent increase = (54,000−45,000)/45,000 × 100 = 9,000/45,000 × 100 = 20%.
A weather report states a 30% chance of rain on Saturday and 40% chance on Sunday. Assuming independence, what is the probability it rains on both days?
Answer: 12%
P(both) = 0.30 × 0.40 = 0.12 = 12%.
Data: 14, 22, 18, 35, 20. After removing the outlier 35, what happens to the mean?
Answer: It decreases
Removing a value above the mean pulls the mean down; original mean=21.8, new mean=18.5.
A Venn diagram shows 20 students like soccer, 15 like basketball, and 8 like both. How many students like only soccer?
Answer: 12
Students who like only soccer = 20 − 8 = 12.
A quality control chart shows 2% of items are defective on average. In a batch of 500 items, how many are expected to be defective?
Answer: 10
Expected defects = 2% × 500 = 0.02 × 500 = 10.
A cumulative frequency graph shows 80 students scored below 75 out of 120 total. What percentile is a score of 75?
Answer: 66.7th
Percentile = (80/120) × 100 ≈ 66.7th percentile.
A table shows: P(A) = 0.6, P(B|A) = 0.5. What is P(A and B)?
Answer: 0.3
P(A and B) = P(A) × P(B|A) = 0.6 × 0.5 = 0.3.
