  1. Only the left headlamp is dim while the right one is normal. What is the most likely cause?

Answer: A high-resistance ground at the left headlamp

A problem affecting one lamp only points to a fault in that lamp's own circuit, usually a poor ground.

  2. A fuse blows instantly every time a circuit is switched on. What type of fault is most likely?

    Answer: A short to ground

A short to ground bypasses the load, causing excessive current that instantly blows the fuse.

  3. On a standard ISO automotive relay, which terminals are connected to the control coil?

    Answer: 85 and 86

Terminals 85 and 86 are the coil, while 30 and 87 are the switched contacts.

  4. During a battery load test at 70°F with a load of half the CCA rating for 15 seconds, voltage should not fall below:

    Answer: 9.6 V

A good battery should hold at least 9.6 V under a half-CCA load for 15 seconds at 70°F.

  5. Why should a high-impedance digital multimeter be used instead of a test light on computer circuits?

Answer: A test light can draw enough current to damage sensitive electronics

A test light's current draw can damage low-current module circuits, while a 10-megohm DMM draws almost nothing.

  6. A starter draws much higher than specified current and cranks slowly. Which is a likely cause?

Answer: A shorted armature or a mechanically tight engine

High current draw with slow cranking indicates excessive load such as a shorted armature or binding engine.

  7. The right turn signal flashes much faster than normal, while the left is fine. What is the most likely cause?

Answer: A burned-out bulb on the right side

Reduced load from a burned-out bulb makes a thermal or load-sensing flasher cycle faster on that side.
