An aircraft travels at 180 knots for 2.5 hours. What is the total distance covered?
Answer: 450 nm
Distance = speed × time, so 180 knots × 2.5 hours = 450 nautical miles.
An aircraft burns fuel at 12 gallons per hour. If the flight is 3.5 hours, how much fuel is consumed?
Answer: 42 gallons
Fuel consumed = burn rate × time, so 12 gph × 3.5 hours = 42 gallons.
An aircraft weighs 3,200 lbs empty. With 200 lbs of fuel and a 170 lb pilot, what is the total weight?
Answer: 3,570 lbs
Total weight = 3,200 + 200 + 170 = 3,570 lbs.
Convert 100 knots to miles per hour. (1 knot = 1.151 mph)
Answer: 115.1 mph
100 knots × 1.151 mph/knot = 115.1 mph.
An aircraft is at 5,000 ft where the standard temperature is +5°C. The actual outside air temperature is +10°C. What is the ISA temperature deviation?
Answer: +5°C
ISA deviation = actual temperature − standard temperature = 10°C − 5°C = +5°C.
An aircraft flies at 120 knots indicated airspeed. Applying a TAS correction factor of 1.05 for altitude, what is the true airspeed?
Answer: 126 knots
TAS = IAS × correction factor = 120 × 1.05 = 126 knots.
An aircraft needs to travel 360 nm at a groundspeed of 150 knots. What is the estimated time en route (ETE)?
Answer: 2 hours 24 min
ETE = distance ÷ groundspeed = 360 ÷ 150 = 2.4 hours = 2 hours 24 minutes.
