How AMCAT Scoring Works: The Adaptive 0β900 Scale
The AMCAT uses Item Response Theory (IRT), the same adaptive algorithm behind the GRE and GMAT. Every section β English, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Ability, and any optional domain module β is scored independently on a 0 to 900 scale. You do not get one combined score; you get a separate score for each section.
Here is what makes the adaptive engine different from a regular test:
- Question difficulty adjusts in real time. Start at medium difficulty. Answer correctly β next question is harder and worth more points. Answer incorrectly β next question is easier and worth fewer points.
- Correct answers on harder questions earn disproportionately more points. A correct answer on a high-difficulty item can push your score 40β60 points higher than a correct answer on an easy item.
- Negative marking applies. Wrong answers carry a penalty. Random guessing on hard questions can drop your score faster than skipping β except you cannot skip; you must answer before proceeding. Eliminate and commit strategically.
- Percentile is reported alongside your raw score. If you score 600 in Quantitative Ability, your percentile shows how you rank against all test-takers in that section β a 600 might be the 75th percentile.
The percentile is often more actionable than the raw score. Recruiters at tier-1 companies typically set cutoffs at the 70thβ80th percentile rather than a fixed number, because the percentile adjusts for test-version difficulty. To benchmark your performance across sections, practice with the AMCAT Quantitative Aptitude and AMCAT Logical Reasoning section guides.
AMCAT Company Cutoffs 2026 β Section-by-Section
Each company sets its own AMCAT cutoffs and may weigh sections differently. The table below reflects reported cutoffs from AMCAT-registered drives and candidate feedback collected through 2026β2026. Cutoffs can shift slightly by role, location, and batch β always confirm on the official job posting.
| Company | English | Logical | Quant | Domain Module | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Infosys | 500+ | 500+ | 500+ | 500+ (if applicable) | Consistent cutoff across all campuses; InfyTQ scores can supplement |
| TCS | 500+ | 500+ | 500+ | 500+ (CS/IT module) | BPS and IPA roles may accept 450+; NQT score is separate from AMCAT |
| Wipro | 450+ | 450+ | 450+ | 450+ (domain) | One of the lower core cutoffs; strong HR round still required |
| Cognizant | 500+ | 500+ | 500+ | 500+ (tech) | GenC Next roles require 600+ across all sections |
| Accenture | 500+ | 500+ | 500+ | 500+ | Application Development roles prefer 600+ in Logical |
| HCL Technologies | 450+ | 450+ | 450+ | Required for tech | Tech Bee program has separate criteria; AMCAT used for lateral hiring |
| Tech Mahindra | 450+ | 450+ | 450+ | Preferred | Accepts slightly lower scores for BPO and support roles |
| LTIMindtree | 500+ | 500+ | 500+ | 500+ (CS) | Competitive β 600+ recommended for technology-track roles |
| Mphasis | 450+ | 450+ | 450+ | Preferred | More flexible than tier-1 firms; good for 450β550 scorers |
| Capgemini | 500+ | 500+ | 500+ | 500+ | Analyst roles require 600+ in domain module; check JD carefully |
The most efficient preparation path is to identify which section holds you back and target it directly. Use the AMCAT English section guide if English is your weak point, or the AMCAT study guide for a full-section plan.

- βDownload your full score report from myamcat.com and identify your weakest section by both raw score and percentile rank.
- βSpend the first two weeks exclusively on your weakest section β do not spread effort evenly across all sections before fixing the floor.
- βPractice with timed drills using the adaptive format: attempt AMCAT practice tests under real time pressure (60β65 seconds per question).
- βLearn the negative marking rule β never guess randomly. Eliminate at least one or two options, then commit. On the adaptive engine, a wrong answer on a hard question costs more than a wrong answer on an easy one.
- βStudy the AMCAT Computer Skills module if applying for IT or CS roles β domain scores often separate candidates at the same core-section level.
- βTarget a 50-point improvement per retake. Going from 450 to 500 is realistic in 4β6 weeks of daily 1-hour practice. Going from 600 to 700 takes 8β12 weeks of consistent preparation.
- βUse the 45-day retake window strategically: schedule your retake at least 50 days after your previous attempt so you have adequate preparation time, not just the minimum gap.
- βAfter each practice session, review every wrong answer and identify whether the error was a concept gap, time pressure, or careless mistake β then target that root cause specifically.

- +Validates your knowledge and skills objectively
- +Increases job market competitiveness
- +Provides structured learning goals
- +Networking opportunities with other certified professionals
- βStudy materials can be expensive
- βExam anxiety can affect performance
- βRequires dedicated preparation time
- βRetake fees apply if you don't pass
