If 'A + B' means A is the father of B, 'A – B' means A is the wife of B, 'A × B' means A is the brother of B, then what does P – Q + R mean?
Answer: P is the mother of R
P – Q means P is wife of Q. Q + R means Q is father of R. So P is wife of Q who is father of R, making P the mother of R.
Looking at a portrait, a man said 'His mother is the wife of my father's son. I have no brothers or sisters.' Whose portrait was it?
Answer: His own son
My father's son = me (no siblings). Wife of me = my wife. His mother = my wife. So the portrait is of my son.
A woman introduces a man as the son of the brother of her mother. How is the man related to the woman?
Answer: Cousin
Brother of her mother = her maternal uncle. Son of maternal uncle = her cousin.
M is the son of N. O is the father of N. P is the son of O and Q is the brother of N. What is Q's relationship to M?
Answer: Uncle
Q is N's brother. M is N's son. Therefore Q is M's uncle.
If A is B's sister, C is B's mother, D is C's father, E is D's mother, then how is A related to D?
Answer: Granddaughter
C is B's mother. A is B's sister, so A is also C's daughter. D is C's father, meaning D is A's maternal grandfather. Therefore A is D's granddaughter.
P's mother is Q's daughter. R is the father of P. S is the only sibling of Q. How is S related to R?
Answer: Cannot be determined
Q's daughter is P's mother, so Q is P's maternal grandmother, i.e., R's mother-in-law. S is Q's sibling. S's gender is unknown, so S could be R's brother-in-law or sister-in-law — cannot determine without gender.
