  1. An attached Xref shows as 'Not Found' in the External References palette after the project folder was moved. What is the best fix?

Answer: Change the Xref path, ideally to a relative path

Updating the saved path, preferably to a relative one, lets AutoCAD find the moved Xref file again.

  2. Shift+clicking an object removes it from the selection instead of adding it, and each click replaces the selection set. Which setting is the cause?

    Answer: PICKADD is 0

When PICKADD is 0, each new pick replaces the current selection and Shift is needed to add objects.

  3. Mirrored text reads backward in a drawing. Which variable keeps text readable when it is mirrored?

    Answer: MIRRTEXT = 0

Setting MIRRTEXT to 0 keeps text reading the right way during MIRROR.

  4. A drawing opens with a warning about missing SHX fonts. Which variable sets the font AutoCAD uses in place of a missing font?

    Answer: FONTALT

FONTALT names the alternate font file to use when the specified font cannot be found.

  5. Objects with lineweights all appear thin on screen even though the lineweights are assigned correctly. What should you check first?

Answer: Whether LWDISPLAY (Show/Hide Lineweight) is on

Lineweights only show on screen when lineweight display (LWDISPLAY) is turned on.

  6. Circles and arcs look like polygons with straight segments after you zoom in. Which command recalculates the display so they look smooth?

    Answer: REGEN

REGEN rebuilds the display data, so curves are redrawn smoothly at the current zoom.

  7. When you use DWG Compare or open a drawing from a client, some objects show as 'proxy objects'. What does this usually mean?

Answer: The objects were made by an application or object enabler that is not installed

Proxy objects stand in for custom objects whose creating application or object enabler is not loaded.
