  1. Figures are arranged so that each row and column contains exactly one circle, one square, and one triangle. Given that Row 1 is circle, square, triangle and Row 2 is triangle, circle, square, what is Row 3?

    Answer: Square, triangle, circle

Each column needs all three shapes; Column 1 has circle and triangle, so Row 3 Col 1 is square; Column 2 has square and circle, so Row 3 Col 2 is triangle; Column 3 has triangle and square, so Row 3 Col 3 is circle.

  2. A shape alternates between filled and outline, and also rotates 90° clockwise each step. After 4 steps from a filled shape pointing up, what is the shape?

    Answer: Filled, pointing up

4 rotations of 90° = 360° returns to pointing up; 4 alternations (even number) returns to filled — the shape is filled, pointing up.

  3. In a 4-step sequence, a small square moves one cell to the right each step within a 4-cell row. At step 3, where is the square?

    Answer: Cell 3

    Starting at cell 1 (step 1), moving right: step 2→cell 2, step 3→cell 3.

  4. Which rule describes this sequence of figures: ○, ○○, ○○○○, ○○○○○○○○?

    Answer: Double each time

1→2→4→8: each term is double the previous, so the rule is multiply by 2.

  5. A pattern has figures where the number of sides increases by 1 and the fill alternates shaded/unshaded. The 3rd figure is a shaded pentagon. What is the 5th figure?

    Answer: Shaded heptagon

From figure 3 (shaded pentagon, 5 sides): figure 4 is unshaded hexagon, figure 5 is shaded heptagon.

  6. In an abstract pattern test, the 'odd-one-out' figure differs in two properties from all others. If all shapes are large black circles except one that is a small black circle, what property makes it the odd one out?

    Answer: Size

The odd figure differs only in size (small vs. large) while color and shape remain the same.
