  1. A shop sells apples in bags of 6 and oranges in bags of 4. What is the smallest number of each you must buy to have equal numbers of apples and oranges?

    Answer: 12 of each

    LCM of 6 and 4 = 12. You need 2 bags of apples (12) and 3 bags of oranges (12) to have 12 of each.

  2. A bus arrives every 12 minutes. The first bus arrives at 07:05. What time does the fourth bus arrive?

    Answer: 07:41

    First bus: 07:05. Second: 07:17. Third: 07:29. Fourth: 07:41. Each bus is 12 minutes after the previous one. Alternatively: 3 intervals × 12 = 36 minutes after 07:05 = 07:41.

  3. A square field has a perimeter of 200 metres. What is its area in square metres?

    Answer: 2,500 m²

    Side = 200 ÷ 4 = 50 m. Area = 50 × 50 = 2,500 m².

  4. Tom saves £5 in week 1, £10 in week 2, £15 in week 3, and so on. How much has he saved in total after 8 weeks?

    Answer: £180
