These are practice questions written for this site, not questions from the real exam. Each explanation shows why the right answer is right and why the others are wrong.

Example 1

Question: In a Revit floor plan view, which setting controls the horizontal cut plane height at which elements are sectioned?

1. View Range — Cut Plane
2. Undercut
3. Far Clip Offset
4. Section Box

Answer: A. View Range — Cut Plane

Explanation:

The correct answer is View Range, Cut Plane. A floor plan is a horizontal slice through the model, and the Cut Plane sets the height at which that slice is taken. Anything the plane crosses is drawn as cut, with heavier cut lines.

Undercut is not a view range setting you use for this purpose. Far Clip Offset is a view depth setting that controls how far below the view you can see, not where elements are sectioned. Section Box belongs to 3D views and limits the visible model volume, so it does not apply to a plan's cut height.

Rule to remember: in plan views, the Cut Plane decides what is sectioned, and the other View Range settings decide what is seen above or below it.

Example 2

Question: You are building a parametric shelving unit family where the number of shelves must automatically adjust based on the unit's overall height, maintaining a consistent spacing. Which of the following formulas would correctly calculate the number of shelves for an array parameter named 'Shelf_Count'?

1. Shelf_Count = Height / Shelf_Spacing
2. Shelf_Count = round(Height / Shelf_Spacing)
3. Shelf_Count = Height * Shelf_Spacing
4. Shelf_Count = integer(Height - Shelf_Spacing)

Answer: B. Shelf_Count = round(Height / Shelf_Spacing)

Explanation:

The correct answer is Shelf_Count = round(Height / Shelf_Spacing). An array count must be a whole number, and dividing a height by a spacing usually gives a decimal. The round function turns that result into the nearest whole number, so the array stays valid when the height changes.

Plain Height / Shelf_Spacing leaves the decimal in place, which is the problem. Height * Shelf_Spacing multiplies instead of dividing, so the count would grow as spacing grows, the opposite of what you want. Height - Shelf_Spacing subtracts, which gives a length rather than a count of intervals.

Rule to remember: when a formula drives an integer parameter, check both the operation (divide for a count) and whether the result needs rounding.

Example 3

Question: Which Revit tool allows you to attach the top or base of a structural column to a beam or slab above?

1. Attach Top/Base
2. Pin to Grid
3. Align and Lock
4. Join Geometry

Answer: A. Attach Top/Base

Explanation:

The correct answer is Attach Top/Base. It ties the top or base of a column to a beam, slab or similar element, so the column height follows that host when it moves. This keeps the model coordinated without manual height edits.

Pin to Grid is not what you want here, since pinning only fixes an element's position and does not relate it to a host above. Align and Lock keeps edges or faces aligned in a view, but it does not reshape a column to meet a sloped or changing element. Join Geometry cleans up the overlap between elements, such as how a beam and a slab display, without changing the column's extents.

Rule to remember: to make a column follow what is above or below it, attach it. Use join to clean up the overlap.

How to use these practice tests

Start with Autodesk's certification page for the Architectural Design Professional exam and read what it says about the exam and the recommended experience. Then take a short mixed set from the main Revit practice test without notes to find where you are weak.

Work through the topic sets next. Spend most of your time on your weakest areas, such as core architectural modeling, view management and graphics, parametric family creation and worksharing and collaboration. After each set, read every explanation, including those for questions you got right, and note the rule behind each one.

Do not rely on practice questions alone. Whenever a question exposes a gap, open Revit and reproduce the task in a real project: build the family, change the view range, schedule the parameter. Hands-on repetition matters because the exam is built around real-world Revit experience.

Close to test day, do a timed run through a full set in one sitting to practice pacing, then review only your recorded mistakes. Our questions are written by us and are not real exam questions, so use them to build understanding, not to predict exact wording.
