FTCE Prep Guide

While waiting for your test day, you may have already developed some effective strategies and approaches that you can use when you take the exam. Moreover, there are a lot of important things that you need to keep in mind when you take the FTCE examination.

To provide you with an idea regarding the most effective test-day best practices, we listed a few of them below for your reference.

  • Before you start taking the exam, take several deep, slow breaths. Doing breathing exercises when taking an exam can help you stay calm and relaxed. Moreover, do not get upset if you feel nervous. Most people actually feel anxious before the start of a test.
  • During the test, follow all the given directions and make sure to never miss any of them. If you did not understand the instructions, don’t hesitate to ask the exam administrator for clarification. Some test-takers are afraid or shy to ask, causing them to miss out on very important test instructions.
  • While taking the exam, don’t be in a rush. Move through each item at a steady pace. In order to keep track of the time effectively, mark a specific item and stop on that item to check for the time. For instance, you can mark question 30  to remind yourself that you should check the time once you reach that item.
  • If you can answer the questions in order because of tough questions, don’t hesitate to mark and skip them. The best way to maximize your score on the test is to keep moving. Don’t waste your time answering a question you have no idea with. It is better to mark that item and come back to it once you’re already done with the easy questions.
  • Invest in your reading comprehension skills. As much as possible, try to read each question with full comprehension and focus. The best way to eliminate incorrect choices is to understand the question effectively. Moreover, avoid reading too much into a question since it may cause you to overanalyze it. Overthinking about a question is not going to help you choose the right answer.
