Failed the FEMA — what to do differently the second time

Got my results yesterday and didn't pass. I'm frustrated but trying to stay focused on what to fix rather than dwelling on it. Writing this partly to process it and partly because I know others will be in the same spot.

My weakest area was exam prep — I knew going in that it was shaky but underestimated how much the exam weighted it. The questions weren't unfair, I just didn't have the depth I needed.

I'm rebuilding my study plan around the fema strategic planning and going much slower this time — no more rushing through topics I think I know. Planning to take 8 more weeks before rescheduling.

Anyone else been through a FEMA retake? What specifically changed in your approach that made the difference? And is it normal to feel like the second attempt is actually harder because of the pressure?

Good thread. One thing I'd add: don't try to cram the night before. I did 2 hours the night before my FEMA and I think it hurt more than helped. Your brain needs consolidation time. Light review or full rest is better.

For the people asking about study timelines: I studied 66 minutes per day for 10 weeks working full time. It's absolutely doable without burning out. The key is consistency — missing days hurts more than extending your timeline.

Same experience here. The fema strategic planning was what finally made it click for me — specifically the way it explains the reasoning rather than just giving answers. Took me 3 weeks of consistent practice but scores went from 69% to 86% by exam day.

Late to this thread but wanted to add — the study guide section trips up more people than any other part. If you're scoring below 70% there in practice, treat it as your only focus for at least a week before moving on. Breadth at the expense of depth in that area is a common mistake.

This is exactly the thread I needed. I sit for my FEMA in 2 weeks and have been second-guessing my prep. The exam prep area you mentioned is definitely my weak spot. Thanks for the honest breakdown.
