California Post Learning Portal
The POST Learning Portal is a powerful tool that allows law enforcement agencies to easily access valuable training resources. Most full-length POST training video programs released on DVD since July 2012 have companion Facilitator’s Guide and Participant’s Guide support documents. These single-page PDF documents provide detailed instructions for facilitating and viewing the program. The program guide contains information about the video content, the training objectives, and other important information for presenters and participants. Previously issued Training Coordinator courses are available on the POST Learning Portal, as well as training information and resources for assigned Training Managers and a list of POST Regional Training Consultants.
California Post Training
POST training is a mandatory requirement for law enforcement officers in the state of California. The program is a combination of classroom lectures and hands-on technical skills training. Students will attend the academy Monday through Friday, eight hours a day, for 25 weeks. During this time, they will also take POST exams. The academy is a partnership with Los Medanos College and offers college credits for each recruit.
POST offers a variety of training programs for peace officers, including the Basic Course and Field Training / Police Training. It also offers specialized training for reserve officers, school district police officers, and district attorney investigators. Additionally, POST provides a quick reference document to locate Legislative Mandated Training requirements for specialized duties an officer may be required to perform during employment with their agency.

Unlike full-length training videos, these short sections are designed to meet the needs of officers and their trainers in meeting legislative mandates or backfill training obligations.
California Post Academy
The Academy Program is an intense regional police academy(link is external) certification course that satisfies California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) minimum training requirements for peace officers. It prepares students mentally, morally, emotionally and physically for the demands of a law enforcement career. The rigorous training, testing and discipline that are part of the program ensures that graduates meet the highest professional standards as set by POST.
The academy is presented in the Standard and Modular Formats. Interested individuals should contact the individual academies directly for academy-specific information, including entry requirements, costs and course schedules.
As the Rio Hondo Police Academy Coordinator, Milt is responsible for overseeing academy operations. His duties include monitoring instructor lesson plans, random classroom observations and verification of legislatively mandated training. He also ensures that students are adequately prepared for the standardized Field Training / Police Training Program by administering the Module III End-of-Course Proficiency Test. Milt also serves on the Commission’s Advisory Committee, which consists of major law enforcement associations and organizations, educators and public members.
Post Certificate California
The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) sets minimum selection and training standards for California law enforcement. POST also awards professional certificates to recognize the achievements of individual officers and raise the level of professionalism within the profession. These professional certificates include the Proof of Eligibility certificate, Reserve officer certificate, Public safety dispatcher certificate, and Records supervisor certificate.
POST has developed several sample forms to assist departments in the background investigation and psychological screening processes. These sample forms are not official POST forms and should be used in close consultation with department legal counsel and human resources/personnel departments.
POST also offers a collection of full-length POST training videos that can be streamed online. If you’re considering a career in law enforcement, POST classes can help you prepare for the academy. They’re offered at several locations across the state, and many of them are online. The academy is paramilitary in nature, so it’s important to be able to follow directions and stay calm under high-stress situations. California Post Exam Practice Test
The California PELLETB is a timed, 2-1/2 hour written test with multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank questions. It is an important part of the application process for a police officer.
