California Post Learning Portal

The POST Learning Portal is a powerful tool that allows law enforcement agencies to easily access valuable training resources. These include downloadable course manuals and interactive presentations, which help participants understand and implement policies. These resources also allow officers to meet mandatory and legislative training requirements. They also assist managers and executives with managing their team’s training needs.

The website also offers a variety of online POST courses that cover a broad range of topics, including emergency management and officer safety. Its courses are designed to reduce the time spent on in-person training and manual documentation. These online courses are free for POST-registered agencies and report directly to EDI for CPT credit.

Most full-length POST training video programs released on DVD since July 2012 have companion Facilitator’s Guide and Participant’s Guide support documents. These single-page PDF documents provide detailed instructions for facilitating and viewing the program. The program guide contains information about the video content, the training objectives, and other important information for presenters and participants. Previously issued Training Coordinator courses are available on the POST Learning Portal, as well as training information and resources for assigned Training Managers and a list of POST Regional Training Consultants.

California Post Training

POST training is a mandatory requirement for law enforcement officers in the state of California. The program is a combination of classroom lectures and hands-on technical skills training. Students will attend the academy Monday through Friday, eight hours a day, for 25 weeks. During this time, they will also take POST exams. The academy is a partnership with Los Medanos College and offers college credits for each recruit.

POST offers a variety of training programs for peace officers, including the Basic Course and Field Training / Police Training. It also offers specialized training for reserve officers, school district police officers, and district attorney investigators. Additionally, POST provides a quick reference document to locate Legislative Mandated Training requirements for specialized duties an officer may be required to perform during employment with their agency.

Streaming video programs can be found at the Learning Portal and are eligible for Continuing Professional Training (CPT) credit. Unlike full-length training videos, these short sections are designed to meet the needs of officers and their trainers in meeting legislative mandates or backfill training obligations.

California Post Academy

The Academy Program is an intense regional police academy(link is external) certification course that satisfies California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) minimum training requirements for peace officers. It prepares students mentally, morally, emotionally and physically for the demands of a law enforcement career. The rigorous training, testing and discipline that are part of the program ensures that graduates meet the highest professional standards as set by POST.

The academy is presented in the Standard and Modular Formats. Interested individuals should contact the individual academies directly for academy-specific information, including entry requirements, costs and course schedules.

As the Rio Hondo Police Academy Coordinator, Milt is responsible for overseeing academy operations. His duties include monitoring instructor lesson plans, random classroom observations and verification of legislatively mandated training. He also ensures that students are adequately prepared for the standardized Field Training / Police Training Program by administering the Module III End-of-Course Proficiency Test. Milt also serves on the Commission’s Advisory Committee, which consists of major law enforcement associations and organizations, educators and public members.

Post Certificate California

The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) sets minimum selection and training standards for California law enforcement. POST also awards professional certificates to recognize the achievements of individual officers and raise the level of professionalism within the profession. These professional certificates include the Proof of Eligibility certificate, Reserve officer certificate, Public safety dispatcher certificate, and Records supervisor certificate.

POST has developed several sample forms to assist departments in the background investigation and psychological screening processes. These sample forms are not official POST forms and should be used in close consultation with department legal counsel and human resources/personnel departments.

POST also offers a collection of full-length POST training videos that can be streamed online. These videos are intended to assist agencies with meeting their specialized training needs or legislative mandates. In addition, most of these videos are eligible for Continuing Professional Training (CPT) credit. POST agency personnel can access the POST training video collection through the Learning Portal.

California Post Classes

If you’re considering a career in law enforcement, POST classes can help you prepare for the academy. They’re offered at several locations across the state, and many of them are online. These courses cover a variety of topics, including mandated training, and all of them provide Continuing Professional Training (CPT) credit.

The academy is paramilitary in nature, so it’s important to be able to follow directions and stay calm under high-stress situations. The program also requires a high level of physical fitness and good health. A history of drug abuse or recent traffic violations may disqualify you from joining the police academy.

The POST Learning Portal offers a variety of full-length training videos that assist law enforcement training managers and instructors in meeting mandated training requirements. These videos are available for immediate streaming through the Learning Portal, and most of them are eligible for CPT credit. The training videos are updated regularly, so you can find the latest presentations and schedules in the Learning Portal’s Multimedia Course Catalog.

California Post Exam Practice Test

The California PELLETB is a timed, 2-1/2 hour written test with multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank questions. It is an important part of the application process for a police officer. Although the test is difficult, it can be passed with proper preparation. The practice test helps applicants get familiar with the format and content of the exam. It also provides an opportunity to test their strengths and weaknesses.

A candidate must have a score of at least 50 on the Pellet B Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery to be considered for a job with a California police department. The test is scored based on the number of correctly answered questions. After the test is administered, it is electronically scanned and converted to a T-score. This score places the applicant’s performance on a bell-shaped curve with a fifty as the average. Any scores above fifty indicate that the applicant is above-average.

While there are many resources available on the structure and content of the PELLETB, success on this exam depends on extensive learning and practice over a period of years. Mometrix Test Preparation’s PELLETB Study Guide includes: practice test questions and detailed answer explanations, step-by-step video tutorials, tips and strategies for passing the test, and a complete review of all three sections: Writing Ability, Reading Ability, and Reasoning Ability.

California Post Requirements

POST-participating departments are required to follow specific selection standards for their police officers. These standards apply to individuals who are hired by the department with no prior law enforcement experience (new hires) and those who have previous law enforcement experience in California or outside of the state (laterals). The background investigation process includes a thorough medical evaluation of each candidate conducted by a licensed physician and surgeon. To help agencies in the conduct of these medical screenings, POST provides the POST Medical Screening Manual for Law Enforcement Officers.

In addition to the basic requirements, a police officer must meet minimum training standards. These training standards include years of experience, education points, and training points. One training point equals 20 hours of law enforcement training. The training requirements can be met with in-house or college-affiliated training.

Starting January 1, 2023, all agencies must report any allegation of serious misconduct by a peace officer to POST. Whether the peace officer resigns, retires, is terminated unrelated to the allegations, or leaves on his/her own accord, the agency must notify POST. POST will then investigate the allegation.
