THIS RED AND WHITE SIGN MEANS:
The WRONG WAY sign may or may not be posted with the DO NOT ENTER sign. If you see one or both of these signs, drive to the side of the road and stop. You are going against traffic. When safe, back out or turn around and return to the road you were on. At night if you are going the wrong way, the road reflectors will shine red in your headlights.
YOU SHOULD ALWAYS USE YOUR EMERGENCY FLASHERS WHEN:
Never stop on the road, unless necessary for safety or to obey a law. If you need to stop, then start braking early as a signal to the cars behind you. If your vehicle breaks down on the road, make sure that other drivers can see it by putting on your emergency lights.
AN ORANGE AND RED SIGN OF THIS SHAPE ALWAYS MEANS:
Some vehicles are not designed to keep up with the speed of traffic. Farm tractors, animal-drawn carts, and road maintenance vehicles usually travel 25 mph or less. Slow-moving vehicles have an orange/ red triangle on the back of the vehicles.
THIS SIGN IS A WARNING THAT YOU ARE APPROACHING:
RAILROAD CROSSING AHEAD. The advance warning sign is usually the first sign you see when approaching a highway-rail intersection. The advance warning sign advises you to slow down, look and listen for a train, and be prepared to stop if a train is approaching.
THIS SIGN IS USED TO PREVENT:
DO NOT ENTER. The sign is usually installed at the beginning of one-way streets and ramps and it prohibits drivers from entering a one-way roadway where traffic is moving in the opposite direction. A DO NOT ENTER traffic sign is usually installed together with the "WRONG WAY" sign.
YOU MUST USE YOUR SEAT BELT:
Always use your seat belts (including the shoulder harness) even if the vehicle is equipped with air bags. You can have shoulder harnesses or seat belts installed in older vehicles. You and all passengers must wear a seat belt or, you and/or your passenger(s) may be cited. If the passenger is under 16 years of age, you may be cited if he or she is not wearing his or her seat belt.
LOOK CAREFULLY FOR MOTORCYCLES BEFORE YOU CHANGE LANES BECAUSE:
Due to the smaller size, motorcycles are much harder to see than regular vehicles. Motorcyclists are recommended to wear bright and light-reflective clothes, keep the headlight on even during daylight hours and flash their brake lights before slowing down.
GENERALLY SPEAKING, YOU ARE IN A LARGE TRUCK'S BLIND SPOT IF YOU:
While truckers do have a better forward view and bigger mirrors, they still have large blind spots and your vehicle can get lost in those blind spots. If you stay in those blind spots, you block the trucker’s ability to take evasive action to avoid a dangerous situation. Generally speaking, if you cannot see the truck driver in his or her side mirror, he or she cannot see you.
YOU WANT TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN AT THE CORNER. A PEDESTRIAN WITH A GUIDE DOG IS AT THE CORNER READY TO CROSS THE STREET IN FRONT OF YOU. BEFORE MAKING YOUR RIGHT TURN, YOU SHOULD:
Do not turn right without looking first. Look for any pedestrians, especially blind pedestrians or traffic, before starting your turn. Blind pedestrians who have a green light are not expecting a driver to make a right turn in front of them. Turning may result in the blind pedestrian becoming disoriented and vulnerable to being hit by another right turning vehicle when attempting to cross the street.
A RED ARROW POINTING TO THE RIGHT ON A TRAFFIC LIGHT MEANS YOU MAY:
RED ARROW. A red arrow means “STOP.” Remain stopped until the green signal or green arrow appears. Do not turn against a red arrow.
WHEN YOU ENTER TRAFFIC FROM A STOP (EX: PULLING AWAY FROM THE CURB), YOU:
Whenever you enter traffic, signal and be sure you have enough room to safely enter the lane. You have to share space with traffic already on the road, and you must know how much space you need to merge with traffic, cross or enter traffic, and exit out of traffic.
TWO SETS OF SOLID DOUBLE YELLOW LINES TWO FEET OR MORE APART:
Two sets of solid double yellow lines spaced 2 feet or more apart are considered a barrier. Do not drive on or over this barrier or make a left turn or a U-turn across it except at designated openings
AT NIGHT, IF AN ONCOMING VEHICLE FAILS TO DIM ITS HIGH-BEAMS, LOOK:
If another driver does not dim his or her lights, look toward the right edge of your lane to avoid being blinded. Do not try to “get back” at the other driver by keeping your bright lights on. If you do, both of you may be blinded and it can lead to an accident.
A TRAFFIC LIGHT IS RED, BUT A POLICE OFFICER IS TELLING YOU TO GO AHEAD ANYWAY. WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
If a traffic officer signals you to stop at a green light, for example, you must stop. If an officer signals you to drive through a red light or stop sign, you must do it. Among the persons authorized to direct traffic are police officers, fire police, highway work area flag persons and school crossing persons.
BEFORE CHANGING LANES ON A MULTI-LANE HIGHWAY YOU SHOULD:
Before changing lanes, signal, look in all your mirrors, check traffic behind and beside you. Glance over your left or right shoulder to make sure the lane you want is clear. Check for vehicles, motorcyclists, and bicycle traffic in your blind spot. Be sure there is enough room for your vehicle in the next lane.
THIS WHITE SIGN MEANS:
KEEP RIGHT. The sign marks a traffic island or a highway divider and it warns you to stay to the right of the obstacle. When this sign is installed at a highway, it may also be accompanied by the "DIVIDED HIGHWAY BEGINS" yellow warning sign.
